About the Park

Tarangire National Park is located in the Northern Safari Circuit of Tanzania. It lies between the grasslands of the Masai Steppe in the southeast. And the Great River Valley lakes in the western and northern regions. The primary lifeline of the park is the permanent Tarangire River especially in the dry season when most of the areas are dry.

Best Time to Visit

The Dry Season (from June to October) is considered the perfect season for game viewing in Tarangire National Park. Many herds of animals gather around the Tarangire River Valley and the swampy regions.

The average temperatures in the dry season are around 26 Celsius in the daytime. And, around 14 Celsius at nighttime.The average temperatures in the wet season are about 28 Celsius in the daytime. And, about 16 Celsius at nighttime.

Getting There

A safari in Tarangire National Park usually starts from the town of Arusha. An ideal way to get there is to fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). The airport is around 29 miles (46 km) from the town of Arusha.

You can also pick an option that’s to fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR). The airport is situated near Dar es Salaam. From there, you can book a domestic charter to Arusha Airport (ARK).

They include large herds of wildebeests, zebras, and African Cape Buffaloes. As well as giraffes, dik-dik, elands, impalas, waterbucks, banded mongooses, olive baboons, etc.

    Predators like lions, honey badgers, African Wild dogs, caracals, leopards and cheetahs are present in the park too.

    Tarangire National Park is also a perfect Tanzania Destination for birdwatching. There are over 550 species of birds in the park. Some examples are long-tailed fiscal, yellow-necked spurfowl, ashy starling, etc.
